   The new Obama administration has reason to distrust the Harper administration over their leaks and misrepresentations of what an Obama advisor did or did not say to a Canadian consulate official. In the end it left the strong impression that an attempt had been made, at an official level, to smear Senator Obama. Many other things that Harper has done and said seem to tally with that interpretation. Canadians should choose the Prime Minister they feel most confident of, but they should also be aware that most in the incoming US government remain highly skeptical of Harper, harboring doubts as to whether he is an honest broker, or merely a conservative cut from the same cloth as George W Bush, a style of governance which has been deeply discredited.
