(CP) With the Winter Olympics just weeks away from opening, I was shocked at the narrow-sightedness or interpretation of snowboarding in an Globe and Mail article today, titled “Once out-of-place gymnasts, now halfpipe heroes:... [Read More...]

Harper the de facto dictator

There are two pieces of commentaries in the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail lately that speak up my mind re PM Harper’s dictatorial style of governance. We’ve opened our eyes during our recent trip with Harper to China — on his and his office’s way of handling the media and the extent of the tight control of messages. I will elaborate in a later article. But first, words by the greater minds: Harper acting like an elected... [Read More...]

Campbell loses everything, but NDP gains nothing

OK, we all know that Gordon Campbell’s popularity is flushing down the drain. However, isn’t it even a bigger problem that the NDP is failing to capture any gains while the BC Conservatives picking up support? There was a caller to a Chinese phone-in radio show last week, saying he felt that Carole James was a nice person but he said every time he listened to James he’d feel her speech is “very annoying”. BMO expands China business; Flaherty in China

Looks like the most high profile delegation led by Canada’s finance minister Jim Flaherty to China this week will open REAL business for Canadian enterprises… finally. If China and Canada can sign extradition treaty before PM Harper goes to China in the fall, the stage is all set for a full-blown recovery of Canada-China relationship. Guess the Tories need that breakthrough before the next election. The frozen Canada-China relation has... [Read More...]

Tory MP doesn’t like party’s attack ads

The Liberal (federal) war room was too happy about this article published by the Kamloops This Week today. Afterall, it IS interesting. I wonder what kind of punishment from her boss Ms McLeod would face :P McLeod pans party ads Recent released Tory ads attacking Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff have failed to impress at least one Conservative MP. Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod said she doesn’t like the ads and would prefer to take... [Read More...]

Day’s ice-thawing mission to China

Canadian Trade Minister Stockwell Day waves from inside an autorickshaw outside a hotel during his visit to Hyderabad, India, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 (AP) What the Globe and other English media didn’t report was that Stockwell Day said today Stephen Harper is “very eager to visit China”. However, it’s quite well known that the Chinese govt has not given any invitation for visit to Harper. So when western leaders are visiting... [Read More...]

Ignatieff popularity growing, Harper stalled: poll

CP — People seem to be gradually warming to Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, but many still have a love-him-or-hate him view of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a new poll suggests. The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey indicates the two men have similar levels of support, but Harper’s negative ratings are much higher. It found that 44% of respondents had a favourable view of Harper, while 45% were negative. Ignatieff got a favourable rating... [Read More...]

Vote gap narrows as Grits, not Tories, get post-budget bounce

Ipsos Reid poll – With the budget now passed as a result of Liberal support, and with the Conservatives put on ‘probation’ by Mr. Ignatieff, a new Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of Canwest News Service and Global Television has revealed a narrowing of the gap between the Tories and the Grits. If an election were to be held tomorrow, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives would receive support from 37% of decided voters (down 2 points), while... [Read More...]
